Opportunism

Japanese: オポチュニズム（英語表記）opportunism

It is translated as opportunism. It refers to not having a firm principled position, being swayed by the situation and the balance of power, and taking an unprincipled response, or to such an ideological trend. It is mainly used in social movements and labor movements. Marxism calls revisionism represented by E. Bernstein right-wing opportunism and putschism (→ Blanquis) represented by L. Blanqui as left-wing opportunism, and considers both to be erroneous theories that distort scientific socialist theory.

日和見主義と訳される。確固とした原則的立場をもたず，状況や力関係によって動揺し，無原則的な対応をとること，またはそのような思想的潮流をいう。おもに社会運動，労働運動で用いる。マルクス主義は，E.ベルンシュタインに代表される修正主義を右翼日和見主義，L.ブランキのような一揆主義 (→ブランキズム ) を左翼日和見主義と呼び，どちらも科学的社会主義理論を歪曲する誤った理論であるとしている。
