A mountain range that runs parallel to the western Himalayas on the border between India, Pakistan, and China, northeast of Kashmir, and across the upper reaches of the Indus River to the south. It consists of the Great Karakoram, also known as Muztag, and the Lesser Karakoram, which runs parallel to it to the south, and reaches from the Pamir Plateau to western Tibet. It has high peaks of 8,000 meters, such as _K2 , Gasherbrum, and Broad Peak. The snow line is 5,500 meters. There are five large glaciers, including Siachen, which are over 50 km long. It was explored by a Kyoto University expedition in 1955, and the Kyoto University battalion reached the summit of Chogoliza in 1958. The Karakoram Pass in the east and the Mintaka Pass in the west were known as caravan routes connecting Central Asia and India.

インド，パキスタン，中国国境地帯，カシミールの北東を，南にインダス川上流をはさんでヒマラヤ山脈西部と並走する山脈。ムスターグと呼ばれるグレート・カラコルム，その南に並走するレッサー・カラコルムからなり，パミール高原からチベット西部に達する。K₂，ガッシャーブルム，ブロード・ピークなど8000m級の高峰がある。雪線は5500m。シアチェンなど長さ50km以上の大氷河が五つある。1955年京大探検隊が踏査。1958年京大隊がチョゴリザ登頂。東のカラコルム峠，西のミンタカ峠は中央アジアとインドを結ぶ隊商路として知られた。
