A group of British poets in the 1930s who showed strong social and political interests from a left-wing standpoint. Led by Auden, they included Spender, Isherwood, C. Day-Lewis, and MacNeice. Although they did not always work as a collective, they published anthologies of poetry such as New Signature (1932) and New Country (1933). By the 1940s, the group had disbanded in a sort of progressive way. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
