Belief in Kannon (short for Kannon Bodhisattva) to be saved or gain worldly benefits. Since Prince Shotoku's Guze Kannon (➡ Horyuji Temple), this belief has been widespread and continues to this day. During the Heian period, the Thirty-Three Temples of the Western Provinces were established, including Hasedera Temple and Kiyomizudera Temple, and this was the most popular period. During the Kamakura period, the Bando Temples, including Sugimotodera Temple, were established, and during the Muromachi period, the Chichibu Temples were established.
