Frost-free period

Japanese: 無霜期間 - むそうきかん（英語表記）frostless period

The frost-free period from the last frost to the first frost. In contrast, the period between the first frost and the last frost is called the frost period. The distribution of areas where frost occurs is closely related to the distribution of minimum temperatures, and the frost-free period is shorter in frost tracks where cold air can easily flow and in frost holes where cold air can easily accumulate. The average frost-free period is from April 25th to October 21st in Sapporo, from February 27th to December 13th in Tokyo, and from March 7th to December 3rd in Kagoshima.

終霜から初霜までの霜のおりない期間。これに対して初霜から終霜の間を霜期間という。霜のおりる地域の分布は最低気温の分布と密接な関係があり，冷気の流れやすい霜道や，冷気のたまりやすい霜穴では無霜期間が短くなる。平均の無霜期間は札幌で 4月25日～10月21日，東京で 2月27日～12月13日，鹿児島で 3月7日～12月3日である。
