...In the order Lyginopteris (illustration), the stem is called Heterangium or Lyginopteris , the leaves are called Sphenopteris, the female inflorescences are called Lagenostoma , and the male inflorescences are called Crossotheca ; in the order Medulosas (illustration), the stem is called Medullosa , the leaves are called Neuropteris or Alethopteris , the female inflorescences are called Codonospermum , Stephanospermum , and the male inflorescences are called Codonotheca , Wittleseya , Potonyea , etc. Fossils of leaves with seeds, such as Sphenopteris, Pekopteris, Alessopteris, and Emplectopteris , have been reported in China and Korea, but there are few areas in Japan where Paleozoic plants are found, and no leaves with seeds have been found.
