Marine insurance that covers cargo. Also called cargo insurance. Marine insurance that covers ships is called hull insurance. Cargo marine insurance covers not only the cargo itself, but also freight, import taxes, and expected profits. When making a contract, English insurance terms and conditions that conform to the British Marine Insurance Act (promulgated in 1906) and Japanese insurance terms and conditions that conform to Japan's Commercial Code are used. The former is used for import/export cargo and cargo transported between three countries, while the latter is used for cargo on domestic coastal routes. The former is an important document for trade transactions along with bills of lading and letters of credit. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
