The groups that are the subject of health examinations are either social groups (what R. M. McIver calls associations) or non-social groups (aggregations). The former are places of business, government offices, schools, neighborhoods, households, etc. (or the social groups within them).

[Modern Community]
The concept of community originated with RM McIver, who proposed it as a basic term in sociology in contrast to association (functional society). In order to analyze social structure, McIver considered communities as groups formed based on natural factors (blood ties, geographical ties, etc.) and associations as interest-based groups formed based on various interests, and argued that one aspect of modern society is the complex intertwining of the two, with each interest increasing qualitatively and quantitatively, becoming more heterogeneous, and in conflict with each other.
