…His uncle, Date Hyobu Shoyu Munekatsu, and his half-brother Tamura Ukyo Muneyoshi were each given 30,000 koku of rice as guardians, and the domain was governed by the annual dispatch of the Shogunate's Koku Metsuke. Magistrate Okuyama Daigaku Tsunetatsu initially wielded power, but Hyobu (Munekatsu) dismissed him in 1663 (Kanbun 3), formed a marriage alliance with Shogunate senior councilor Sakai Tadakiyo, and favored Magistrate Harada Kai and his close aide Shudoshin to oppress opposition forces below the clan, punishing over 120 people, including 17 who committed seppuku by execution. In 1666, rumors of an attempted poisoning of Kamechiyo spread, and the doctor Kono Doen and his son were killed, and in 1668 a similar incident occurred, leading to growing criticism that it was a conspiracy by Hyobu and others. …
