...The cast includes Morita Kan'ya 13th as Obata Koheiji, Onoe Kikugorou 6th as Nago no Takuro, and Ichikawa Onimaru (later Onoe Taganojō 3rd) as Taikuro's wife Ochika. The play draws inspiration from Santo Toden's omnibus volume "The Strange Tale of Revenge at Asaka-numa," Tsuruya Namboku 4th's "Colored Fairy Tales," and Mokuami's "The Ghost Story of Obata Koheiji," but it is also thought that this work was indirectly influenced by Tanizaki Jun'ichiro's "Okuni and Gohei" (premiered in 1922). The appearance of Kan'ya 13th in both works, and the number and relationship of the characters make it seem unlikely that they are unrelated, and it is located at the end of the so-called original drama period, and can be said to be a live-action version of "Okuni and Gohei." ...
