...There is a small amount of flat land along the Hieda River upstream of the Ina River, but agriculture is not thriving due to the high altitude. Until World War II, the main industry was wood processing such as Magewatsupa and spatulas, but in 1961, Okutadami Power Station was built on the Tadami River on the border with Niigata Prefecture, and public facilities such as forestry plants and national lodgings were built using the fixed property tax revenues. Tourism development is also underway, taking advantage of the rich natural environment of Ozegahara in Nikko National Park, which is on the border with Gunma Prefecture. In 1973, hot springs began to flow and provide hot water to all homes. In addition to accommodation facilities that use this, resort facilities such as Alza Oze no Sato have been developed, and the number of tourists from the Tokyo metropolitan area is increasing.
