Okitama Prefecture

...Yamagata Prefecture was established in 1870 by combining the former Nagatoro and Yamagata Domains and their exclaves with Sakata Prefecture, and in 1871, the domains were abolished and prefectures were established, merging with Tendo Prefecture. In the same year, Yonezawa Prefecture was renamed Okitama Prefecture, and parts of Yamagata Prefecture, Matsumine Prefecture, Shinjo Prefecture, and Kaminoyama Prefecture became Yamagata Prefecture, and parts of Yamagata Prefecture, Matsumine Prefecture, and Oizumi Prefecture became Sakata Prefecture, and the current prefectural area was consolidated and reorganized into three prefectures. In 1875, Sakata Prefecture was renamed Tsuruoka Prefecture, and then in 1876, Yamagata Prefecture merged with Tsuruoka Prefecture and Okitama Prefecture, and so it remains as it is today.

…70年酒田県に旧長瀞･山形両藩と飛地とをあわせた山形県が成立，71年廃藩置県を経て天童県を併合した。同年米沢県は置賜（おきたま）県と改称，また山形･松嶺両県の一部と，新庄･上山両県が山形県に，同じく山形･松嶺両県の一部と大泉県が酒田県になり，現県域は3県に統合･整理された。75年酒田県は鶴岡県と改称，次いで76年山形県が鶴岡･置賜両県を併合して現在に至っている。…
