...Folk songs about Gengobei and Oman, a man and woman who commit double suicide at Toribeno (Toribeno), became popular in the early modern period, and Joruri and Kabuki-kyogen plays (Oman Gengobei mono) with these two as the main characters were composed, as well as Kabuki and Japanese music that used this situation. (1) Jiuta Lyrics by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, music by Koide Kinshirou, revised by Okazaki Kengyo (1684-1753). It is said that Okazaki Kengyo transcribed the song used in the travel scene of the Kabuki-kyogen play Toribeno Shinju, which was performed at the Miyako Mandayu-za in Kyoto in January 1706 (3rd year of the Hoei period) and at the Iwai-za in Osaka in the summer of the same year, into a jiuta. ...
