Large-leaved Japanese laurel - Large-leaved Japanese laurel

A climbing deciduous shrub of the Celastraceae family (APG classification: Celastraceae). It is also called the Japanese laurel. The branches are gray-brown with lenticels. The leaves are broadly elliptical and 6-10 cm long. The flowers bloom in May and June and are pale green. It resembles the Japanese laurel, but the branches, undersides of the leaves, and inflorescences have short hairs. It is distributed in Honshu west of the Kanto region, Shikoku, Kyushu, and the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.

ニシキギ科（APG分類：ニシキギ科）のつる性落葉低木。シタキツルウメモドキともいう。枝は灰褐色で皮目がある。葉は広楕円(こうだえん)形で長さ6～10センチメートル。花は5～6月に開き、淡緑色。ツルウメモドキに似るが、枝、葉の下面、花序に短毛がある。関東地方以西の本州、四国、九州、朝鮮半島南部に分布する。
