A climbing deciduous shrub of the Celastraceae family (APG classification: Celastraceae). It is also called the Japanese laurel. The branches are gray-brown with lenticels. The leaves are broadly elliptical and 6-10 cm long. The flowers bloom in May and June and are pale green. It resembles the Japanese laurel, but the branches, undersides of the leaves, and inflorescences have short hairs. It is distributed in Honshu west of the Kanto region, Shikoku, Kyushu, and the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
