Prophecy (prophecy)

Japanese: 預言(予言) - よげん（英語表記）prophecy

It refers to the act of a god or the spirit of a dead person temporarily possessing a person and communicating divine will to those around them. In particular, the word "prophecy" is often used in cases of predictions of future events, but is also generally used to refer to things that are not necessarily divine will. On the other hand, the word "prophecy" is usually used to distinguish such acts from those in the Bible and biblical religious traditions, and is not limited to predictions or foreknowledge. In any case, it is a religious phenomenon widely recognized by many ethnic groups around the world, and the intermediary of divine will can be either male or female.

神もしくは死者などの霊が，一時的にある人にのり移り，その周囲の人々に向かって神意を伝達する行為をいう。特に〈予言〉の語は，未来のできごとに関する予告である場合について多く用いられ，また一般には必ずしも神意によらないものをもこの語で呼ぶ。一方〈預言〉の語は，聖書および聖書的宗教の伝統におけるそのような行為を指す場合に，特に区別して使われることが普通であり，また予告や予知に限定されない。いずれにしても，広く世界の多くの民族に認められる宗教現象であり，神意の媒介者は男女を問わない。
