... After the war, the Chushingura film was planned from early on, but due to restrictions on period dramas imposed by GHQ (General Headquarters for the Allied Powers), it was not realized. In 1952, Toei produced the first two-part series, "Ako Castle," directed by Hagiwara Ryo and starring Kataoka Chiezo in the roles of Asano Takumi no Kami and Oishi Kuranosuke, without using the title "Chushingura" and without depicting a revenge, making it a drama of political criticism by the Ako Roshi. The title "Chushingura" was then revived in 1954 for Shochiku's "Chushingura" (directed by Ozone Tatsuo). The first color Chushingura film was the Toei two-part series "Ako Roshi" (directed by Matsuda Sadatsugu) in 1956, and the first color wide-screen film was Shochiku's "Dai Chushingura" (directed by Ozone Tatsuyasu) in 1957. ...

…　戦後，忠臣蔵映画は早くから企画されたが，GHQ(連合軍総司令部)の時代劇規制のため実現せず，52年，〈忠臣蔵〉の題名を用いず，仇討を描かないで赤穂浪士による政治批判のドラマにするという形で，はじめて東映作品《赤穂城》二部作が，萩原遼監督，片岡千恵蔵の浅野内匠頭･大石内蔵助二役により，つくられた。そして54年の松竹作品《忠臣蔵》(大曾根辰夫監督)で〈忠臣蔵〉という題名が復活した。忠臣蔵映画の最初のカラー作品は56年の東映作品《赤穂浪士》二部作(松田定次監督)，最初のカラー･ワイド作品は57年の松竹作品《大忠臣蔵》(大曾根辰保監督)である。…
