Ozakai Cave - Ozakai Cave

Japanese: 大境洞窟 - おおざかいどうくつ

The remains of a cave dwelling in Ozakai, Himi City, Toyama Prefecture. The cave is an uplifted sea cave facing Toyama Bay. In 1918, when the foundations of the cave behind Hakusan Shrine on the coast were dug up in order to remodel the shrine building, a large stone rod measuring 1m in length, shells, animal and fish bones, stone tools, pottery, and human bones were unearthed. The cave is divided into six layers due to a rock fall, and the lowest layer contains pottery from the middle Jomon period, the middle layer contains Yayoi pottery, and the upper layer contains Sue ware. This excavation marked the beginning of research into the stratigraphy of pottery.

富山県氷見市大境にある洞窟住居址。洞窟は富山湾に面した隆起海食洞。 1918年海岸にある白山社社殿改築のため，社殿背後の洞窟の基盤を掘ったところ，長さ 1mの大石棒，貝殻，獣魚骨，石器，土器，人骨などが多数出土。この洞窟内は落盤のため6層の地層に分れており，最下層に縄文中期の土器，中層に弥生土器，上層に須恵器などが含まれていて，この発掘が土器の層位研究のさきがけをなした。
