Kiyosuke Ooka

Year of birth: 1679
Magistrate of Nagasaki in the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Gorosaburo and Goroemon. In 1709, he was appointed Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, and Governor of Bizen. His stipend was 3,000 koku. In 1694, he succeeded the family and held various positions, including Shoinban, Shiban, Metsuke, and Nishimaru Rusui. He was Magistrate of Nagasaki from 1711 until his death. During his term of office, he cooperated with Arai Hakuseki and proposed concrete measures to reform Nagasaki trade, such as limiting the number of ships that arrived at the port, which became the backbone of the Shotoku Nagasaki Shinrei. His book, Kiyo Gundan, is a valuable historical document both as a geography of the trading city of Nagasaki in the early modern period and as an account by an official of the changes in trade methods.

江戸中期の長崎奉行。通称五郎三郎,五郎右衛門。宝永6(1709)年従五位下,備前守となる。知行高3000石。元禄7(1694)年家を継ぎ,書院番,使番,目付,西丸留守居などを歴任。正徳1(1711)年から死去まで長崎奉行。在任中新井白石に協力して長崎貿易改革のため来航船数の限定など具体策を上申し,これが正徳長崎新例の骨格となった。著書『崎陽群談』は,近世貿易都市長崎の地誌として,また貿易仕法変遷に関する当局者の記述として貴重な史料である。
