…Of the birds in the family Accipitridae, the smaller hawks are generally called hawks, while the larger species are generally called eagles, but taxonomically, eagles and hawks cannot be distinguished. There are about 220 species in the family Accipitridae, and the only ones that truly have the image of birds of prey and fit the name eagle are the sea eagles, harpy eagles, and mountain eagles (including mountain eagles). The vultures, which are carrion-eating creatures similar to condors, and the crested eagles, which feed mainly on snakes, lizards, and frogs, are also named eagles, but this does not fit the image of an eagle.
