…Chikamatsu Monzaemon took up this incident as a story from the world of the Taiheiki, and following Kenko-Hoshi's Monomiguruma, he staged Goban Taiheiki in 1710 (7th year of the Hoei era). Kira Kozukenosuke Yoshinaka appears as Takanori Moronao, Asano Takumi-no-kami Naganori as Enya Judge, and Oishi Kuranosuke as Ooboshi Yuranosuke. In 1748 (1st year of the Kan'en era), 47 years after the attack, a representative puppet theater play depicting the loyal retainers was written. …

[Tahara Tsuguro] The attack by the Ako Roshi was later incorporated into plays and other productions, and Asano Naganori appears in Kanadehon Chushingura as Takasada, the lord of Hakushu Castle and Judge of Enya. In the play, he plays a gentle character, which moves the audience to tears when he is bullied by Takashina Moronao (Kira Yoshinaka) or during the seppuku scene. ...
