Big Newspaper - Oshinbun

Japanese:
Big Newspaper - Oshinbun
The opposite of small newspapers. In terms of format, they were large in size, and in terms of content, following the tradition of the Seiron Shimbun, they mainly wrote articles on politics and economics, were written in a prose style, had a high price tag, and were read by intellectuals. Representative examples include the Asano Shimbun and the Yubin Hochi Shimbun. After the National Diet was opened in 1881, they became affiliated with the newly formed political parties, and many of them actively criticized the government, but the government suppressed them by promulgating the Newspaper Ordinance and the Libel Law. Around 1900, both large and small newspapers were overwhelmed by a new style of newspaper called the Newspaper Newspaper, and were merged.
