...A transparent glaze is then applied on top and fired, and after cooling, the surface is polished with gold sand to finish. This is called émail cloisonné (wired cloisonné). If a pattern is not made on the base with silver or copper wire, but glass glaze is applied like paint and fired, it is called wireless cloisonné. If the base is dissolved off with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid, it is called reduced-base cloisonné, and if it is fired using a transparent colored glaze, it is called transparent cloisonné.
