A basic source of Kabuki history. It is a record of performances at each theater in Edo (Tokyo) from 1624 (Kan'ei 1) when Saruwakaza (later Nakamuraza) opened in Nakahashi, Edo, until 1912 (Meiji 45). It has been written down in the following four ways. (1) "Hanano Edo Kabuki Chronicle" compiled by Tatekawa Enma. A record of entertainment from 1624 to 1804 (Bunka 1). There are two versions of the reprint: one published by the Kabukiza Publishing Department and the other by the Japanese Classics Collection Publishing Association. (2) "Kabuki Chronicle Continued" compiled by Ishizuka Houkaishi. This is the successor to Enma's "Kabuki Chronicle" and contains performance records from 1805 to 1858 (Ansei 5). There are two versions of this book: the Kokusho Kankokai version and the Shin Gunsho Ruiju version. (3) "Continued Kabuki Chronicles (Ken)" compiled by Tamura Nariyoshi. Published by the Ichimura Theater in 1922 (Taisho 11). Succeeding the sequel, this book contains relevant materials such as performance records and reviews from 1859 to 1903 (Meiji 36). It was intended to be in two volumes, titled "Ken", but the manuscript for "Kon" was destroyed in fire in the Great Kanto Earthquake and was never published. (4) "Kon: The Chronicles of Kabuki (Kun)" compiled by Toshikura Koichi. It was named in accordance with Tamura's wishes, but the contents are a newly compiled book. It contains performance records and related materials from 1904 to July 1912. It was published by Engeki Shuppansha in 1979 (Showa 54).
