... In the early Edo period, thin handmade ware, which was popular in the Enshu region, became mainstream, and Ibe-te ware became mainstream. From the Shotoku period (1711-16), overglaze Bizen and white Bizen ware were produced as official items for the feudal domain and as souvenirs. At the end of the Edo period, small kilns (Tenpo kilns, or multi-chambered climbing kilns) were built as a way to overcome the slump that had been occurring since the mid-Edo period. ...
