…The western slopes facing the Ionian Sea receive a relatively large amount of rainfall, leading to the development of forests, while the northern plains, particularly those of Macedonia and Thrace, experience lower winter temperatures and a continental climate. Since ancient times, local winds such as the etediai (northern winds) that bring dryness in the summer and the sirocco (southern winds) that bring warmth in the winter have influenced the lives of the inhabitants. 95% of the total population is Greek.
