A port city in the state of Victoria in southeastern Australia. It is located southwest of Melbourne, at the western end of Port Phillip Bay. It has industries in food, textiles, and automobiles, and is also an export port for wool, leather, and wheat. It developed after World War II, and is home to oil refining and aluminum smelting.
