X-ray flash photography

...This method produces bright images with a relatively weak light source, and when used in conjunction with the Schlieren method, it is possible to capture disturbances such as shock waves and compression waves propagating through transparent media such as air. There is also X-ray flash photography, which uses the X-rays that are generated instantaneously when a high-voltage pulse is applied to an X-ray tube.

Due to the large inertia of mechanical shutters, the minimum exposure time is about 10-3 s.
