A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family (APG classification: Ranunculaceae). The roots contain toxic alkaloids. The stems are about 1 meter tall and the leaves are trilobed. The flowers bloom in sparse panicles from August to September and are bluish-purple. The flower stalks are densely hairy all over. It is commonly found in the mountains and fields of Hokkaido except for eastern and southern Hokkaido. It grows in grasslands and marshes, has upright stems, glossy leaves, and a large inflorescence, and is sometimes called terihabushi to distinguish it from other species.
