…the branch of biology that elucidates the social relationships of animals. The first comprehensive book on animal societies was written by AVE Spinas (1844-1922), whose work Animal Societies was published in 1878. However, due to the trend toward scientism and objectivity from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, the recognition of animal societies was criticized as being anthropomorphic, and a period of silence lasted for about half a century.
