Chloride: C 15 H 23 ClN 6 O 3 S (434.90). Widely distributed in microorganisms, animals, and plants, it is enzymatically synthesized from ATP and L-methionine in living organisms. Also called activated methionine, the methylsulfonium bond connecting the methionine and adenosine moieties is a high-energy bond and is widely involved in methyl group transfer reactions. It is also involved in the synthesis of polyamines by the transfer of the propylamino group of the amino group. The chloride is also extracted from yeast and is cold stable at pH 4-6. Decomposition point 118-122 °C. +32° (water). λ max 260 nm (water). Soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol.
