Japanese: 雲文 - うんもん

A cloud pattern. It is widely used in Chinese art and crafts, and depending on the shape, it is called the Treasure Cloud Pattern, the Cloud and Thunder Pattern, the Flowing Cloud Pattern, the Reishi Cloud Pattern, etc. It symbolizes clouds with simple curves, and the shape has become distinctive depending on the era, such as the free-spirited and varied shape of the Han Dynasty and the Reishi shape of the Tang Dynasty. Cloud patterns were also introduced to Japan, and have been used in various crafts since ancient times, including the crafts in the Shosoin Repository.

雲形文様のこと。中国の美術工芸品に広く用例があり，形状により宝雲文，雲雷文，流雲文，霊芝 (れいし) 雲文などという。単純な曲線で雲を象徴的に表わし，漢代の奔放で変化に富む形，唐代の霊芝の形のように時代によって形に特色が生じた。雲文は日本にも伝来し，古くは正倉院の工芸品をはじめ各種工芸品に使われている。
