[Adenoma]
It is caused by the neoplastic proliferation of epithelial cells in the glandular ducts, which are the main components of the mucosa. There are tubular adenomas, which are made up of proliferation of only the glandular ducts, villous adenomas, which are caused by proliferation of the mucosal surface epithelium, and mixed types. The mixed type was once called papillary adenoma, but is now called tubulovillous adenoma.
