Latitude of the horse - Umanoido

This is a translation of the English "horse latitudes" and refers to the latitude zone of 30 to 35 degrees on the ocean in both the northern and southern hemispheres. The winds there are weak or calm, and it is hot and relatively dry. Also called the subtropical doldrums, it appears at the position of the climatological axis of the subtropical high pressure system, but it moves north and south by about 5 degrees of latitude with the change in the altitude of the sun. The name "horse latitudes" comes from the fact that a sailing ship that was trying to cross the Atlantic to transport horses was unable to navigate because of the calm, so the horses were abandoned in the sea, but there are other theories about this.

英語のhorse latitudesの訳で、南北両半球とも洋上の30～35度の緯度帯をいう。そこでは風が弱いかあるいは静穏で、暑く比較的乾燥している。亜熱帯無風帯ともいわれ、亜熱帯高気圧の気候学的な主軸の位置に現れるが、太陽高度の変化に伴われて、緯度5度ぐらいの幅で南北に移動する。馬の緯度という名称は、馬を輸送するために大西洋を横断しようとした帆船が、静穏なために航海できなくなり、そのために海に馬を捨てたということに由来するが、これについては異説もある。
