Japanese: 内野（京都） - うちの

…The fire destroyed the government offices in the Daidairi, but the Daigokuden was never rebuilt. The Daidairi fell into disrepair, and by the Kamakura period the area was covered with fields and was called Uchino.

… Meanwhile, in April 1177 (Jishō 1) at the end of the Heian period, a great fire, known as the Taro Fire, burned down more than half of Kyoto, leaving the Daigokuden and other buildings almost completely burned down and reduced to ruins. The area around Banquet Pine Bara had long been called Uchino, but this name expanded to cover the whole of Miyagi, and in the Kamakura period Uchino turnips became a specialty of Kyoto. A road extending north from Suzakuji passed through Uchino, and eventually came to be called Senbon-dōri, probably because the area had become a burial ground with many sotoba (stupas) standing there. …
