Snapper (Fuedai) - Lutjanus stellatus

Japanese: フエダイ(笛鯛) - フエダイ（英語表記）Lutjanus stellatus

A marine fish of the Lutjanidae family in the order Perciformes. It has a body shape similar to that of a sea bream, but the tip of the head is slightly pointed. The body color is brown with a slight orange tinge. The abdomen is lighter in color. There is a blue vertical stripe on the head, and there is a round white spot 2-3 scales above the lateral line at the lower anterior end of the soft part of the dorsal fin. It is distributed from Ibaraki Prefecture to Okinawa. It is not known from the Yaeyama Islands, the southwest Pacific Ocean, or the Indian Ocean. It grows to about 40 cm in total length. Traditionally, the scientific name of the snapper was L. rivulatus , but it has been revealed that it is different from the true L. rivulatus (L. stellatus), and the new scientific name L. stellatus has been proposed.

スズキ目フエダイ科の海産魚。いわゆるタイ型の体型だが，頭部先端がややとがっている。体色は褐色でやや橙色を帯びる。腹部のほうが色が淡い。頭部に青い1縦帯があり，背びれ軟条部の前端下部で側線より2～3鱗上部に白色の丸い斑点がある。茨城県から沖縄まで分布。八重山列島，南西太平洋，インド洋では知られていない。全長40cmほどになる。従来，フエダイにはL.rivulatusの学名があてられていたが，真のL.rivulatus(ナミフエダイ)とは異なることが明らかにされ，L.stellatusの新学名が提唱された。
