Catechol

Pyrocatechol, 1,2-dihydroxybenzene. _{C 6} H ₆ O ₂ (110.11). It is obtained by dry distillation of catechu, but can also be synthesized by alkaline fusion of o -chlorophenol or demethylation of guaiacol. Colorless prismatic crystals. Melting point 104 °C, boiling point 245 °C. 1.344. K _a 3.3×10 ^-10 (18 °C). Easily sublimed, soluble in water, alcohol, and ether. Easily oxidized, especially in alkaline solutions, which tend to discolor in air. Forms a redox system with o -quinone and acts as one of the electron transport systems in the body. Used as a photographic developing agent in combination with metol ( p -methylaminophenol). It is also used as an analytical reagent, as it forms complexes with metals in alkaline solutions. pyrocatechol，1,2-dihydroxybenzene．C₆H₆O₂(110.11)．カテキューの乾留によって得られるが，o-クロロフェノールのアルカリ融解，グアイアコールの脱メチル化などによって合成される．無色の稜柱状晶．融点104 ℃，沸点245 ℃．1.344．K_a 3.3×10^－10(18 ℃)．昇華しやすく，水，アルコールあるいはエーテルに可溶．酸化されやすく，とくにアルカリ溶液は空気中で変色しやすい．o-キノンとの間に酸化還元系をつくり，生体内電子伝達系の一つとしてはたらく．メトール(p-メチルアミノフェノール)と組み合わせて写真用現像薬として用いられる．また，アルカリ溶液中で金属と錯体をつくるので，分析用試薬としても用いられる．[CAS 120-80-9]
