Born on November 25, 1919. In 1950, while working as an assistant at the University of Tokyo Hospital, he completed the world's first gastroscope together with Olympus optical engineers Mutsuo Sugiura and Masaharu Fukami. He passed away on November 27, 1980. He was 61 years old. He was awarded the Eiji Yoshikawa Cultural Prize in 1990. He was from Saitama Prefecture. He graduated from Tokyo Imperial University.
