Ukeragahana - Ukeragahana

Japanese:
Ukeragahana - Ukeragahana

A collection of poems and prose from the late Edo period. Written by Kato Chikage. The first volume was published in 1802 (Kyowa 2), and the second volume in 1808 (Bunka 5). Chikage was a student of Kamo no Mabuchi, who advocated Man'yoshu-style poetry, but he did not follow his teacher's style. His style was characterized by a graceful and elegant style based on the Kokin-cho style, and many of his poems have an urban feel. He excelled in landscapes rather than lyricism, and this characteristic can be seen in works such as "The surface of the Tone River, shrouded in mist by the sails of a boat that draws its water veins up through the night." The title of the book comes from the fact that in 1801, when Tomikoji Sadanao asked him to write a poem, he submitted the poem, "Musashino, I wonder if I have lived in a time when even the flowers that bloom are so numerous that they can be picked."
