Xiang Kai (English spelling)

Japanese: 襄楷 - じょうかい（英語表記）Xiāng Kǎi

A Chinese scholar from the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Dates of birth and death unknown. His courtesy name was Gongjiu. He was from Pingyuan County, Jianyin (now west of Linyi County, Shandong Province). He was skilled in astronomy and the art of Yin and Yang. During the reign of Emperor Huan, the eunuchs were extremely tyrannical and politics were in disarray. Taking advantage of the frequent disasters that occurred at the time, he petitioned twice to correct political discipline, but was instead accused of slandering the higher-ups. Later, when Emperor Ling ascended to the throne, his claims were accepted, and he was appointed as a Fangzheng and invited to become a doctor, but he did not accept.

中国，後漢末の学者。生没年不詳。字は公矩（こうきよ）。平原郡隰陰(現，山東省臨邑県の西)の人。天文･陰陽の術をよくした。桓帝のとき，宦官の専横はなはだしく，政治が乱れた。そこで彼は，おりから頻発した災異にことよせて，政治の綱紀をただすべく2度にわたって上疏したが，かえって上を誣（し）いるものとして罪を受けた。のち，霊帝が即位するに及んで主張が認められ，方正に挙げられたり博士として招聘をうけたが応じなかった。
