Ugaritic Cuneiform - Ugaritic and Cuneiform

…the general term for characters used in the Ancient Orient, each of whose strokes is in the shape of a wedge.
[Types and distribution]
Three systems are known. One is cuneiform, invented by the Sumerians, and this is the system generally meant when people say cuneiform. The other was used in Achaemenid Persia, where the number of characters was reduced to 41. Although it was sometimes used like an alphabet, it was basically a syllabary similar to Japanese kana characters.
