The boundary line of biological distribution that runs roughly north to south through the Lombok Strait between Bali and Lombok in Southeast Asia, and the Makassar Strait between Borneo and Sulawesi. The western part belongs to the Oriental Province, and the eastern part belongs to the Australian Province. It was proposed by A. R. Wallace in 1868, and named by Huxley.
