...Some cedars are estimated to be 2,000 to 4,000 years old, and the recently discovered Jomon cedar and Daio cedar are representative examples. Some, such as the Wilson stump, thought to have been cut down during the Shimazu clan era, are over 4.3 meters in diameter at 2 meters above ground. In other words, cedars are the largest and longest-lived species of trees native to Japan.
