…Some of them had deep ties with the Jin Dynasty and contributed to the transplantation of Chinese-style culture to the Jin Dynasty. However, perhaps because they were unable to reunify the country, no records of the Balhae people themselves remain, and although they are touted as the "prosperous nation of the East Sea," much of their history remains unclear. The base of the Bohai Empire was centered in the upper reaches of the Mudanjiang River, but the capital of the Zhen Kingdom at the time of its founding is believed to be the ancient city of Aodong in Dunhua County, Jilin Province.
