…From his arrival in the Darien region of the Indies in 1514 until his death in Santo Domingo, Hispaniola, he crossed the Atlantic nine times as a royal official. In 1526 he published his Outline of the Natural History of the Indies in Toledo. In 1532 he was appointed official chronicler of the Indies by the royal family and wrote the great General History of the Indies (Part I, 1535).
