Smooth bore gun

Japanese: 滑腔砲 - かっこうほう（英語表記）smooth bore gun

A gun that is not rifled. It is the mainstream of modern tank guns. Conventional tank guns had rifled edges on the inside of the gun to spin the shell in order to stabilize the ballistic trajectory. However, this rotation creates resistance when the shell is fired and reduces the power of armor-piercing shells (→armor-piercing shells) and shaped charge shells, so smoothbore guns eliminate the rifle and prevent the shell from spinning. Stabilizing wings are attached to the shell to stabilize the ballistic trajectory.

施条されていない（ライフルのない）砲。現代の戦車砲の主流をなす。従来の戦車砲は弾道安定のため砲の内側にライフルを刻んで砲弾に回転を与えていた。しかしこの回転が砲弾発射時の抵抗を生み，また徹甲弾（→装甲貫徹弾）や成形炸薬弾の威力をそこなうため，ライフルをなくして砲弾が回転しないようにしたのが滑腔砲である。弾道の安定のため砲弾に安定翼をつけている。
