Chatan [town] - Chatan
A town in Nakagami County, Okinawa Prefecture, in the central-western part of Okinawa Island. It faces the East China Sea, to the west of Okinawa City. It was the site where US forces landed during the Battle of Okinawa, and after the war it became a military site. Kadena Air Base is located between the town and Kadena Town to the north. The military base occupies more than 50% of the town area, and the town's economy is highly dependent on the base. Area: 13.93 km2 . Population: 27,264 (2010).

沖縄県，沖縄島中西部にある中頭(なかがみ)郡の町。沖縄市の西隣，東シナ海に臨む。沖縄戦での米軍上陸地で，戦後は軍用地となり，北方の嘉手納(かでな)町との間に嘉手納飛行場がある。基地面積は町域の５割以上を占め，町の経済の基地依存度は高い。13.93km2。２万7264人（2010）。
