自然の美しい風物。「花鳥」は観賞の対象となり、詩歌、絵画などの題材とされる自然の景物の代表としての「花」と「鳥」を意味し、「風月」は自然の風景の代表としての「風」と「月」を意味し、狭義には「清風」と「明月」をさす。転じて、そうした自然の風物を観賞したり、それらを題材として詩歌、絵画などの創作にあたるなど風雅の遊び、風流韻事をいう。
