A leading scholar and historian of the 16th century Ottoman Empire. His real name was Kemalpaşa-zâde Ahmet Şemseddin. He distinguished himself as a warrior in his youth, but later devoted himself to learning, and served as a professor at the Islamic seminary and as a chief justice before becoming Seyhul Islam (Supreme Islamic Justice) in 1525, a position he held until his death. He excelled in Turkish translations of Idris Bitlissi's Heşt-Behişt (The Seven Paradises), as well as in Persian and Turkish poetry and prose. He was particularly renowned as a historian, and his representative works include Mohác-nâme (The Book of Mohác), which describes the Battle of Mohác (1526), and Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmân (The History of the Ottoman House).

16世紀のオスマン帝国を代表する学者，歴史家。本名 Kemalpaşa-zâde Ahmet Şemseddin。若い頃は武人として名をあげたが，その後，学問に励み，イスラム神学院教授，大法官を経て，1525年にシェイヒュル・イスラム (イスラム最高法官) に就任し，死にいたるまでこの職責を果たした。イドリス・ビトリスィの『七つの楽園』 Heşt-Behiştのトルコ語訳や，ペルシア語，トルコ語による詩，散文に優れた。特に歴史家として名高く，代表作は，モハッチの戦い (1526) を描いた『モハッチの書』 Mohaç-nâme，『オスマン王家の歴史』 Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osmân。
