Year of death: 29th July 1804 (3rd September 1804)
Year of birth: August 24, 15th year of the Kyoho era (October 5, 1730)
A Confucian scholar from the mid-Edo period. His given name was Zensho and his pen name was Chuzo. His pen name was Tosho, and his other pen name was Seisei-do. His posthumous name was Shusei-sensei. His father was Togai and his mother was Kura. He was from Kyoto. He was the third son, but as his eldest and second elder brothers died young, he became the third head of Kogi-do. Togai was seven years old when he died. His uncle Ranko acted as his guardian and raised him. Togai made an effort to revise and publish Togai's posthumous works, such as "Shosetsu Sensei Shibunshu." He also wrote many original works, such as "Kogi Shoyoku," and tried to make the ancient theory of Kogi easy to understand, but he did not introduce any new theories. All of his works are unpublished. He hated eggplant and had a hard time swallowing the food his mother cooked for him. <References> Nanbu Kinuyo, "The Thoughts of Ito Tosho" ("An Essay on the History of Japanese Thought")
