...In the early Kamakura period, Michichika's son Michitomo established the Horikawa family, Sadamichi established the Tsuchimikado family, Michikata established the Nakanoin family, and his grandson Michiari established the Rokujo family. Furthermore, in the Edo period, Harumichi's grandson Tomoki established the Iwakura family, Ariyoshi established the Chigusa family, Michikata's grandson Michikazu established the Higashikuze family, Atsumichi's son Michinaga established the Kuze family, his grandson Suemichi established the Baikei family, and Chigusa Ariyoshi's son Masanaga established the Uematsu family. The Koga family was naturally held a high official position not only among these branch families but also among the Genji in general, and they often served as Genji choja and betto (chief priests) of both Shogaku and Junna-in temples. In particular, after Masasada received an imperial decree from Emperor Toba that the betto positions would be permanently assigned to his family, they were filled by Masasada's descendants, such as Koga and Nakain, until the third shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, took them away. ...
